News update - July 2018

Salma Ahmed and John Palmer completed contracts for the Department for Communities NI (DfC) and the NI Housing Executive (NIHE) in March 2018.

The research carried out for the DfC is titled: Review of housing and care schemes funded by Special Needs Management Allowance. Twenty two schemes retained SNMA funding after the introduction of the Supporting People Programme in April 2003. The research findings are being used to inform the Department’s decisions on the future policy direction of SNMA in relation to Supporting People policy, and in particular whether these services should be transferred to the Supporting People Programme or should be redefined as conventional residential care.

The contract with NIHE represented the third and final stage of a research and implementation project designed to develop a methodology for strategic needs assessments to underpin planning for the Supporting People Programme in NI.
