Kent County Council commissions North Harbour Consulting to advise on strategy and structures for community engagement

Kent County Council has commissioned North Harbour Consulting to develop a strategy and structures for improving community engagement in the county’s programme of equality and diversity work. The project will focus in particular on how engagement with the ‘seven equality groups’ can be improved. We will review the way the council has engaged with equality groups in a number of recent consultation exercises; talk to groups that have been involved about their experience of involvement and how they think it could be improved; and identify groups and areas where engagement has not taken place.

The seven equality groups are those defined in UK equality legislation: Gender; Disability and long term life-limiting illness; Race, colour, nationality or ethnic origin; Religion and belief; Sexual orientation (gay, lesbian and bisexual people); Age ; and Gender identity (transgender people and people with gender identity issues.
