Briefing for the Northern Ireland Housing Executive on the evolution of the mixed funding system for new-build social housing in England completed

The review of the way the mixed funding system for new-build social housing works in England is complete.

This is a background study in preparation for major changes in the social housing development programme in Northern Ireland from April 2008. For the first time, all new social housing developed by housing associations will be expected to be financed by a mix of public and private finance. The Housing Executive is interested in the way the mixed funding regime was introduced in England in 1988, how the system has evolved since then, and what the impact has been on English housng associations and their development activities.

The study follows on from a comparative study of housing needs and housing market assessment methodologies in England and Northern Ireland that was completed in October 2007.
